Mallards Bow Out Of MILL Tourney

BERLIN – Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team fell to Calverton, 20-10, this week in the Maryland Independent Lacrosse League (MILL) semifinals, but there is still another carrot out there for the Mallards.

The Mallards had won four straight in dominating fashion heading into post-season play in both the MILL and the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC). Worcester competes in both leagues and participates in conference tournaments for both.

The first order of business for the Mallards was the MILL tournament, which began on a good note for Wor-cester. The Mallards dominated Bishop McNamara at home on Monday in the MILL quarterfinals with an impressive 17-1 win. The win sent Worcester into the conference semifinals and a date with Calverton, which had beaten the Mallards, 13-11, in the regular season matchup back on April 13.

Back in action again at home on Tuesday, the Mallards fell to Calverton, 20-10, and were eliminated from the MILL tournament. However, the Worcester boys will play Gunston at home on Friday in the ESIAC championship game. The Mallards beat the Herons, 13-9, back on April 3. Overall, Worcester’s record now stands at 13-5. Even after Friday’s ESIAC title game, the Mallards still have one more against Cape Henlopen on the road on Monday.
