BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in solid performances at the Bayside Championships last week finishing near the top or in the middle of the team standings with a couple of individual conference championships.
The Decatur girls finished fourth overall among the 15 Bayside teams represented. North Caroline was first, Kent Island was second and Bennett was third. The Decatur boys finished eighth overall, with North Caroline finishing first, Kent Island second and Colonel Richardson third.
Two Seahawks won conference championships for finishing first in their respective events. Basketball standout Dayona Godwin finished first in the shot put with a distance of 32’10”. Bethany Williams finished first in the girls’ triple jump with a combined distance of 32’3”.
Several other Seahawks finished in the top 10 in their respective events during the conference championships. On the girls’ side, in the 100 hurdles, Emily Cook was seventh and Adrianna Serpe was ninth. Madison Jones finished eighth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200. Serpe finished eighth in the 300.
In the 3,200, Peyton Dunham was ninth and Alison Alvarado was 10th. Claire Billings was ninth in the 400. In the relays, the Decatur girls finished fourth in the 4×100, fifth in the 4×200, third in the 4×400 and fourth in the 4×800. In the field events, Godwin was first in the shot put and seventh in the discus. Ivy Stearn was fourth in the high jump while Malea Saunders was fifth. Williams finished first in the triple jump and second in the long jump. Dana Kim was seventh in the pole vault.
On the boys’ side, John Curtis was fifth in the 110 hurdles. Cameron James was seventh in the 1,600. Curtis also finished 10th in the 300. Javier Hernandez was fifth in the 3,200, while Jack Reimer was seventh and Cade Solito was eighth. Tyrese Milbourne was eighth in the 400. In the relays, Decatur was eighth in the 4×100, 10th in the 4×200, fourth in the 4×400 and fourth in the 4×800.
In the field events, Steven Kaminski was eighth in the discus, while Ernest Shockley was ninth. Ryan Beach was second in the high jump, while Kevon Voyles finished seventh. Voyles also finished ninth in the long jump. Brett Kim finished in a four-way tie for third in the pole vault. Shockley finished fourth in the shot put. Jared Massey was eighth in the triple jump.
