BERLIN- After a late season loss to crosstown rival Stephen Decatur in the regular season finale last Friday, Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team wasted no time getting back in the winning track, routing Salisbury School, 17-1, on Wednesday in the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference semifinals.
The Mallards were dominant at times during the season, running off 10 wins in a row at one point, but scuffled a little down the stretch. Last Friday, the Worcester girls traveled across town to face old rival Stephen Decatur and got beat by the Seahawks, 14-7.
It’s always special when the Mallards and the Seahawks face off in the annual friendly neighborhood rivalry game. The Mallards and the Seahawks played together in area youth programs and many compete both with and against each other in various travel and tournament teams.
Last year, Decatur beat Worcester, 14-10, making last Friday’s victory the second in a row for the Seahawks in the series. The two previous meetings were won by Worcester and each by just one goal. Worcester wasted no time in rebounding from the loss to Decatur, taking out their frustration in a 17-1 win over Salisbury School on Wednesday. The Mallards will host the ESIAC tournament championship game on Friday.
