BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity basketball team beat host Salisbury School, 43-13, on Monday to end a two-game skid following winter break.
The Mallards returned from a winter hiatus last Wednesday and fell to Salisbury Christian, 36-32, in double-overtime. Leigh Lingo led Worcester with a game-high 15 points, or nearly half her team’s score, in the double-overtime loss.
Back in action on Saturday in a rare weekend game made up from Friday’s cancellation due to snow, the Worcester girls faced Delmarva Christian at home on Senior Day. The game was tied at 9-9 after one quarter and the Royals took a narrow 13-11 lead into halftime.
Delmarva Christian outscored Worcester, 10-4, during the third quarter, but the Mallards did not roll over. The Worcester girls outscored the Royals, 13-9, during the fourth quarter, but the rally fell short and Delmarva Christian hung on for the 32-28 win. On Monday, Worcester worked out some frustration from two narrow losses by routing Salisbury School, 43-13. Leigh Lingo led Worcester with 11 points and eight steals.
