Md. Teen Injured Skateboarding In North OC

OCEAN CITY — A Timonium, Md. teen was hospitalized in critical, but stable condition last week after suffering serious injuries while being pulled on a skateboard by a motor vehicle in the Montego Bay community in Ocean City on Thursday night.

Around 7:37 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, Ocean City Police responded to the area of Oyster Lane and South Ocean Drive in the Montego Bay community for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on a skateboard.

The victim, a 14-year-old male from Timonium, Md. was treated on the scene by Ocean City EMS and was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 4 to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore where he was listed in critical but stable condition on Friday.

After an initial investigation, Ocean City Traffic Safety Unit investigators determined the teen had been riding a skateboard while holding on to the rear of the vehicle, which was traveling west on S. Ocean Drive. The victim then lost his footing and fell off the skateboard, resulting in serious injuries.

There was no indication of excessive speed. At this time, there are no charges pending for the driver. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. At the time of the incident, the victim was not wearing a helmet or any safety gear.
