BERLIN — No injuries were reported and all of the occupants were able to escape from a townhouse fire at a multi-family complex in Berlin last Friday night.

Around 7:30 p.m. last Friday, the Berlin, Newark, Ocean Pines and Showell Volunteer Fire Companies were alerted for a reported residential fire at a Berlin townhouse complex on Bay Street. The Ocean City Fire Department was also called to assist. First-arriving units observed smoke and fire extending from the two-story multi-family complex.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the townhouse of origin. The townhouse was occupied at the time of the fire and all of the occupants were able to escape and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross responded to assist the occupants of the townhouse involved in the fire as well as those in adjacent units.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and attributed to unattended cooking. Anyone with additional information about the blaze is urged to contact Worcester County Fire Marshal Chief Deputy Matt Owen at 410-632-5666.
