Seahawks Fall To Queen Anne’s, 34-7

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team lost to visiting Queen Anne’s, 34-7, for its third straight loss after starting the season 2-1.

For the third straight week, the Seahawks faced a tough Bayside North opponent and for the third straight week, the outcome was essentially the same. After starting the season with a promising 2-1 mark, the Seahawks have dropped games to Bayside North powers Kent Island, North Caroline and now Queen Anne’s.

Decatur hung with Queen Anne’s defensively for about a quarter last Friday before the Lions got on the board with  a touchdown with just 12 seconds remaining in the period to make it 7-0. Queen Anne’s added another touchdown with about five minutes remaining in the second quarter to go up 14-0. Then, just before the half, the Lions intercepted a Decatur pass and returned it for a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0.

With just about two minutes left in the third, Queen Anne’s added another score to extend the lead to 27-0. Early in the fourth, Decatur finally got on the board. Quarterback Ashten Snelsire ran for 54 yards to set up his own two-yard touchdown run a few plays later to cut the lead to 27-7. Queen Anne’s added a late score to close out the 34-7 win.
