Local Golfers Fare Well In States

BERLIN- After battling out all season in the Bayside South, the Stephen Decatur and Bennett golf teams acquitted themselves well this week against stiff competition in the state 4A-3A semifinal match at the University of Maryland.

Bennett and Decatur finished first and second respectively in both the Bayside South and the District 8 standings in one of the closest seasons in recent memory between the familiar rivals. As a reward for their outstanding seasons, each school sent four golfers to the state semifinals at the University of Maryland Golf Club this week with a chance to advance to the state finals. Decatur and Bennett were the only Eastern Shore schools represented in the state semifinals.

While neither team advanced a golfer to the state championship match, the players acquitted themselves well against some of the top high school players in the state. For Decatur, Matt Kinsey led the Seahawks with a round of 84, while Brady Leonard shot 86, Hayden Snelsire shot 87 and Emily Malinowski shot 91. For Bennett, Savannah Scott shot 81, Timmy Kerrigan shot 82, Cade Trauger shot 87 and Tyler Massey shot 96.
