Trooper Injured In WOC Collision

WEST OCEAN CITY =- A West Ocean City woman was charged with driving under the influence and other traffic violations last weekend after allegedly colliding with a Maryland State Police cruiser on Route 50.

Shortly after 7 p.m. last Saturday, a Maryland State Police (MSP) trooper was driving in the area of eastbound Route 50 in West Ocean City when an allegedly intoxicated driver attempted to make a left turn from westbound Route 50 onto Elm Street. The MSP trooper attempted evasive action, but was unable to avoid striking the vehicle, driven by Kathleen West, 64, of West Ocean City, which collided with the MSP vehicle.

The MSP trooper was taken to Atlantic General Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision. The MSP vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Caprice, suffered extensive damage. West and her two adult passengers were not injured in the collision. West was charged with driving under the influence, failure to grant right-of-way and related traffic offenses. After being charged, she was released to a sober driver.
