Seahawks Solid In Bayside Meet

BERLIN – Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams acquitted themselves well at the Bayside Conference meet at Bennett last week with a handful of first-place finishes and high placings in many events.

On the girls’ side, Claire Billings finished first in the 800, while Dori Krasner was second and Katherine Marshall was fourth. Adrianna Serpe finished third in the 100 hurdles while Jessica Wharton finished seventh in the 100-meter dash. Caroline Gardner finished fifth in the 1,600, Bethany Williams was 10th in the 200, and Serpe was second in the 300. Maya Knepp was second in the 3,200.

In the field events, Caela Berrie finished first in the high jump, while Bridget Buxbaum was sixth. In the long jump, Bethany Williams was third, Jessica Wharton was fourth and Khalin Wise was 10th. Wise also finished third in the shot put. Williams was third in the triple jump while Wise finished fifth.

On the boys’ side, Avonte Purnell finished 10th in the 100 and Sam Rakowksi was eighth in the 110 hurdles. Rakowski also finished fourth in the 300 hurdles. Jack Reimer finished first in the 3,200 while Javier Hernandez finished fifth. Cameron James finished first in the 400, while Chad Fischer finished fourth. Richard Poist finished fifth in the 800.

In the field events, Wyatt Davy finished fifth in the high jump, while William Thompson was sixth. Eric Bontempo finished fourth in the discus. Purnell finished fourth in the long jump, while Jared Massey was sixth and Montrel Moore was 10th. In the pole vault, Davy was fourth, Massey was fifth and Poist was seventh. Jack Bahlman finished 13th.

In the shot put, Malakhi Lucas was eighth, Tyler Cook was ninth, John Liberto was 10th and Malik Lawson was 11th. In the triple jump, Massey was second and Andre Andrews was seventh.
