Canal Dive Leaves Man Injured

OCEAN CITY — In one of the first water-related incidents in an early summer season already rife with tragedy, an unidentified man dove into a canal at 53rd Street last weekend and had to be transported to the hospital via Maryland State Police helicopter.

Around 5 p.m. last Saturday, an unidentified male in his 20s attempted to jump into the bay at 53rd Street and swim back to a nearby midtown bar. The victim sustained neck and back injuries when he dove into the canal, but was pulled to safety by a resident.

Ocean City Emergency Services responded and the victim was ultimately transported to the hospital first by ambulance and then to MSP helicopter Trooper 4, which had landed at a designated area at Jolly Rogers amusement park. The condition of the victim is not known.
