BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in solid performances at the state 3A-East Region meet last week with a state regional championship for Dayona Godwin in the shot put and top 10 finishes for other athletes in several events.
Godwin won the 3A-East region championship in the shot put event last week. Godwin, who shattered Decatur’s career scoring mark in basketball this season, also finished ninth in the discus at the regional meet. Savannah Schultz finished 12th in the discus. Also on the girls’ side, Malea Saunders finished fourth in the high jump, while Bethany Williams finished fifth in the triple jump.
On the boys’ side. Ryan Beach finished second in the high jump, while Ernest Shockley finished sixth in the shot put. For years, Decatur has produced regional and state champions in the pole vault and the Seahawks turned in strong performances again this year in the regional meet. Brett Kim finished second and Evan Haas finished fourth.
