BERLIN- It took some patience and time, but the Stephen Decatur boys’ varsity lacrosse team is quietly putting together a solid second half of the season.
Going into the 2016, it was widely known the Decatur boys’ team, ravaged for the most part by graduation last year, was going to struggle early as the young but talented team meshed and started playing well together. Not helping was a schedule front-loaded with tough Bayside North opponents and a strong out-of-conference schedule that included Saints Peter and Paul, Worcester Prep and Cape Henlopen.
However, after taking some early lumps the Seahawks have played well down the stretch. Decatur was won its last two including an 18-2 rout over Wicomico last Wednesday and a 7-4 win over Bennett last Friday. All in all, the Seahawks have won three of their last five dating back to a 16-3 romp over Kent County on April 15. The latest run includes a narrow loss to Queen Anne’s, 11-8, and a last second lost to Cambridge-South Dorchester on April 22 that could have made it four out of the last five.
