BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity swimming teams were solid last weekend in the state championship meet with both the boys and girls finishing near the middle of the pack in the team scores.
The Seahawks had individual swimmers in several events on both the boys’ and girls’ sides along with the relays. The Decatur boys finished 14th overall in the state meet, while the Seahawk girls finished 16th overall.
On the boys’ side, Andrew Gottfried had the best individual performance, finishing second in the 100 butterfly and 10th in the 200 freestyle. Kevin Williams was 17th in the 200 individual medley and 18th in the 100 breaststroke. Dustin Berkey finished 18th in the 100 freestyle. In the relays, the Decatur boys team including Berkey, Williams, Gottfried and Chase Deickman finished 10th in the 200 medley relay. Berkey, Deickman, Gottfried and Tucker Cordial finished 10th in the 400 freestyle relay.
On the girls’ side, Allison Hunter finished 11th in the 200 individual medley, Marley Rakow was 12th in the 50 freestyle while Kirsten Graham was 14th. Hailey Williams finished 17th in the 500 freestyle. In the 200 medley relay, the Decatur team including Hunter, Williams, Graham and Rakow finished 14th. In the 200 freestyle relay, Rakow, Graham, Abigail Crisanti and Zainab Mirza finished 11th.
