BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity swim teams turned in strong team and individual performances last week at the state 3A-2A-1A Region meet.
Both the boys and girls team finished third overall as a team in their respective meets. In both the boys’ and girls’ meets, Easton finished first, Queen Anne’s was second and Decatur was third.
Seahawk swimmers finished at or near the top in most events. On the boys’ side, in the 200 freestyle, Andrew Gottfried was second and Tucker Cordial was ninth. Kevin Williams finished third in the 200 individual medley. Chase Deickman was eighth in the 50 freestyle, while George Zaiser was 10th.
Gottfried finished first in the 100-butterfly. In the 100 freestyle, Dustin Berkey was third and Deickman was eighth. Wyatt Sperry was 10th in the 500 freestyle. Berkey finished fourth in the 100 backstroke. Williams was fourth in the100-breaststroke, while Dan King was 10th.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Berkey, Williams, Gottfried and Deickman finished third. In the 200 freestyle relay, Zaiser, Cordial, Tyler Keiser and William Watson finished seventh. In the 400 freestyle relay, Berkey, Williams, Deickman and Gottfried finished third
In the girls’ meet, Hailey Williams finished sixth in the 200 freestyle, while Lilian Rakow was eighth. Allison Hunter finished fourth in the 200 individual medley, while Abigail Crisanti was seventh. Marley Rakow finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, while Kirsten Graham was fifth.
Graham finished fifth in the 100 butterfly, while Jamie Ditzel was ninth. Crisanti was sixth in the 100 freestyle. In the 500 freestyle, Williams was second and Zainab Mirza was sixth. Marley Rakow finished third in the 100 backstroke, while Hunter was fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Williams, Hunter, Graham and Marley Rakow finished fourth. In the 200 freestyle relay, Marley Rakow, Crisanti, Mirza and Graham finished second. In the 400 freestyle relay, Hunter, Lilian Rakow, Mirza and Williams finished third.
