BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team enjoyed a big week, sweeping a dual meet against Cambridge-South Dorchester and Kent County last Wednesday before beating Queen Anne’s and Bennett in meets on Friday and Monday.
Against Cambridge-South Dorchester in the dual meet last Wednesday, Robert Kaminski beat Mason Brunner at 106 and Josh Lawson beat Xavier Spencer at 113. Cambridge got on the board at 120 with a win by Dawson Betts over Jeremy Danner and Tre’Quan Prattis kept it going with a win over Decatur’s Carl Echols.
Robert Scafone started a big run for the Seahawks with a win by Andy McKahan over Randolph Taylor at 138. Adam McInerney beat Ahmir Prince at 145 and Gabriel Kim and Lucus Aulinskis each won by forfeit at 152 and 160. Tyler Vansice beat Harrison Spies at 170 to keep the momentum going.
Cambridge-South Dorchester then won three straight with Khalm Harris beating Spencer Kaminski at 182, Daniel Erdell beating Dryden Brous at 195 and Kristofer Williams beating Gavin Payne at 220. Jian Joobeen closed out the match with a win over Zachary Lewis at 285.
Against Kent County, Decatur got out to a quick lead with a pair of forfeit wins by Josh Lawson and Jeremy Danner at 113 and 120. Carl Echols beat Kent County’s Alex Brummitt at 126, and Austin Hickey won by forfeit at 132. Decatur’s Robert Scafone beat R.J. Ball at 138. Andy McKahan beat Kent County’s Kyle Clayton at 145, Adam McInerney won by forfeit at 153 and Tyler Vansice won by forfeit at 160.
Lucus Aulinskis beat Kent County’s Donnie Forgan at 170 and Caleb Bourne beat Bobby Pinder at 182. After Gavin Payne won by forfeit at 195, Kent County got its lone win of the day at 220 as Markel Newman topped Dryden Brous. Jian Joobeen beat Matt Harman at 285 and Robert Kaminski won by forfeit at 106 to close out the 72-3 win.
On Friday, Queen Anne’s got out to an early lead through some of the lighter weight classes. At 126, Queen Anne’s Trysaen LaBrier beat Decatur’s Carl Echols, and Queen Anne’s Colin Jens beat Robert Scafone at 132. Jacob Heinz beat Zachary Pilorski at 138.
Andy McKahan started a big run for the Seahawks at 145, beating Queen Anne’s Blake Donaldson. Adam McInerney won for Decatur at 152, beating Thomas Keating. Lucus Aulinskis kept the momentum going at 160 with a win over David Colburn and Tyler Vansice took down Patrick Kirby at 170.
Queen Anne’s stopped the run at 182 with a victory by Shanahan Kean over Spence Kaminski. After Caleb Bourne won by forfeit at 195, Gavin Payne beat Queen Anne’s Mitchell Sherbert at 220. Jian Joobeen won by forfeit at 285, Robert Kaminski won by forfeit at 106 and Josh Lawson won by forfeit at 113. Jeremy Danner beat Queen Anne’s Nick Slater at 120 to round out the Seahawks’ 54-18 win.
Against Bennett on Monday, Decatur’s Robert Kaminski beat Patrick Hughes at 106 and Josh Lawson beat Gene Williams at 113 for an early Seahawk lead. Jeremy Danner kept the roll going at 120 with a win over Zachary Lacier. Carl Echols beat Cole Nestor at 126 and Robert Scafone beat Matt Darcy at 132.
Andy McKahan kept it going for Decatur with a win over Tanner Farro at 138. Adam McInerney beat David Darcy at 145 and Lucus Aulinskis beat Keyshawn Dale at 152. Decatur got on the board at 160 with a win by Chad Farro over Zerrick Collins. Louis Bernard made it two in a row for Bennett at 170 with a win over Tyler Vansice.
Caleb Bourne beat William Harrison at 182, Dryden Brous beat Trent Ireland at 195 and Jian Joobeen beat Angel Trujillo at 220. Bennett’s Loma Thomas beat Decatur’s Jose Robles at 285, but the damage had been done and the Seahawks earned the 62-13 win.
