Decatur Wrestlers Take Down Wicomico, 69-10

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team got back into Bayside Conference action on Wednesday with a 69-10 rout over Wicomico.

After a holiday break followed by participation in the South River Duals last week, the Seahawks were back in action on Wednesday and routed Wicomico, 69-10. Decatur won 12 of 14 matches on the way to victory over the Indians. At 106, Robert Kaminski defeated Wicomico’s Cade Stone. Josh Lawson won by forfeit at 113 and Jeremy Danner won by forfeit at 120.

In the 126-pound match, Decatur’s Carl Echols defeated Wicomico’s Bryan Rangel and Robert Scafone won by forfeit at 132. Decatur’s Aiden Nichols defeated Noah Lawson at 138 and Adam McInerney topped Jared Labarr at 145. Wicomico got on the board at 152 with a win by Jake Schertz over Decatur’s Gabriel Kim.

Brett Kim righted the ship for Decatur with a win by forfeit at 160. Tyler Vansice won by forfeit at 170 and Caleb Bourne won by forfeit at 182. Wicomico got back on the board with a win by Isaac Lawson over Gavin Payne at 195. However, Decatur’s Solomon Efergan won by forfeit at 220 and Jian Joobeen beat Wicomico’s Abraham Cervantes at 285. The Seahawks will compete in the Iron Horse Duals this weekend and will return to Bayside action against Snow Hill next Wednesday.
