Seahawks Solid In Pat Russo Invitational

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams fared well at the Pat Russo Invitational last week, scoring near the middle of the pack in the team scores, while achieving some top finishes in the individual events.

The Decatur girls finished sixth overall among the 17 teams competing and collected a few high ranks in individual events. In the pole vault, for example, where Seahawk teams have always excelled, Katie Hofman was first and Jillian Mitrecic was fourth. Bethany Williams finished second in the high jump, third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. In the track events, Rachel Savage was eighth in the 800, Claire Billings was 10th in the 500 and Christina Romano was 10th in the 300. In the relays, the Decatur girls finished fifth in the 4×400, eighth in the 4×800 and 10th in the 4×200.

On the boys’ side, the Seahawks finished eighth as a team among the 14 schools participating. Again, Decatur scored well in the pole vault with Evan Haas taking third, Hyunsoo Chun taking fourth and Jacob Ciurca taking fifth. In the track, Cameron James was sixth in the 1,600 and 10th in the 800. Javier Hernandez finished eighth in the 3,200. In the relays, Decatur was third in the 4×800, sixth in the 4×400 and seventh in the 4×200.
