Decatur Girls Off to Fast 2-0 Start

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls varsity basketball team beat host Wicomico, 40-23, on Tuesday to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Seahawks opened the 2015-2016 campaign under new Coach Kate Coates with a 54-10 win in a non-conference tune-up against Arcadia last week. However, Decatur’s first real test came with a Bayside South opener on the road Tuesday against Wicomico and the Seahawks were up for the challenge, routing the Indians, 40-23.

Dayona Godwin scored 26 in the win over Arcadia last week and followed that up with a 30-point performance against Wicomico on Tuesday. Godwin entered the season with 1,395 career points, just 99 shy of the school record set by Elise Mercer in 2005. With 56 points in the first two games, Godwin is now just 43 away from the Decatur record.
