Worcester Girls Closing In On Perfection

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team collected two more shutouts this week to continue their pursuit of perfection for the 2015 campaign.

The Mallards blanked host Salisbury Christian, 8-0, last Wednesday. On Thursday, the Worcester girls were back in action against old rival Saints Peter and Paul in a makeup game following a postponement on October 2 because of the storm. Worcester cruised past the Sabres, 7-0, last Thursday.

Julia D’Antonio led the attack with two goals, while Grace Tunis and Karlie Southcomb also scored single tallies. The Mallards won their first contest with Saints Peter and Paul, 2-0, back on September 14, and there is a possibility to two rivals will meet again when the ESIAC playoffs get underway next week.

With the win, the Mallards improved to 8-0 on the season with one regular season game remaining against Salisbury School. The Worcester girls beat Salisbury School, 2-0, on September 21. Worcester has allowed just two goals all season, both single tallies by Salisbury Christian and Gunston.

Six of their other wins have come via shutout and the Mallards have outscored their opponents this season by a combined 47-2. After the regular season finale with Salisbury School, which was played too late to be included in this edition, Worcester will host the ESIAC semifinals and Senior Day next Wednesday, followed by the ESIAC championship next Friday.
