Seahawks Edge Clippers, Take South Lead

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team edged host Bennett, 3-2, on Tuesday to avenge its only loss of the season thus far and take a narrow lead atop the Bayside South standings.

The Seahawks lost to Bennett, 3-0, at home on September 16 in just their second game of the season. The home loss put a temporary damper on a season of so much promise, but there is almost always a shot at redemption, at least early on in a season, and the Decatur girls got their chance on Monday on the road against the Clippers.

The Seahawks edged the Clippers, 3-2, on Monday to nudge ahead of Bayside South contenders Bennett and Parkside. After the September 16 loss to the Clippers, Decatur has now won four in a row in impressive fashion and now sports a record of 5-1. Parkside’s record is now 6-2, with losses coming to Decatur and Queen Anne’s, while Bennett is 5-2 with losses to Parkside and now Decatur.

The season schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Seahawks, who will host Wicomico on Friday and travel to Parkside on Monday for a rematch with the Rams. After that, the Decatur girls will face always tough Bayside North foes Queen Anne’s and Kent Island before finishing up the regular season against Wicomico.
