OCEAN CITY- The Greene Turtle last week captured the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s summer-long Co-Rec Softball championship, beating runner-up Tequila Mockingbird, 7-3, in the championship game.
The Greene Turtle swept through its early round playoff games, beating Harpoon Hanna’s, 13-10, Ponzettis’/Rio Grande, 7-4, and Tequila Mockingbird, 7-1, to reach the finals. With the loss, Tequila Mockingbird had to go back down to the loser’s bracket and battle back to gain a rematch with the Turtle in the title game.
Tequila Mockingbird beat Bull on the Beach, 12-1 and Phillips, 13-12, in its opening rounds before falling to the Greene Turtle. Tequila Mockingbird then beat Ponzetti’s/Rio Grande, 13-5, to get back to the championship game. However, the Greene Turtle completed the sweep and beat Tequila Mockingbird, 7-4, in the title game.
