Decatur Track Teams Sweep Home Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams swept a five-school meet at home last week with both the boys and girls winning their respective meets.

The Decatur girls finished first with 151 total team points, followed by Cambridge-South Dorchester with 87 and Snow Hill with 37. The Seahawks boys also dominated the meet, finishing in first with 138 total team points, followed by Cambridge-South Dorchester with 97 and Snow Hill with 53.

On the girls’ side, Decatur took first in several events. Jenna Reimer was first in the 1,600. In the field events, Hannah Wilson was first in the high jump, Lisa Purnell was first in the discus, Takia Long was first in the shot put and Bethany Williams was first in the triple jump. The Decatur girls also finished first in the 4×800 and 4×400 relays.

The Decatur boys were equally impressive, collecting several first place finishes on their way to the team win. Jakhai Woodard was first in the 100, Parker Harrington finished first in both the 1,600 and the 800, and Ruben Ortega finished first in the 300 hurdles. In the field events, Evan Haas finished first in the pole vault, while Justin Longest was first in the shot put. The Decatur boys also won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
