Salisbury Music Events To Begin This Saturday

SALISBURY – A new monthly musical event called 1st Saturday will kick off in downtown Salisbury this weekend.

The first of many 1st Saturday’s will be held on April 4 from 4-7 p.m. on North Division St. There will be six events to follow in 2015, with the last one being on October 3, 2015.

“The success of our Launch Party on March 7 at Headquarters Live tells us that our Salisbury family wants this event and is ready to support us, this season and for many seasons to come,” 1st Saturday Committee Co-Chair Sarah Rayne said. “We can’t wait to get started.”

1st Saturday will provide a free, family-friendly experience for locals while also promoting local business, tourism growth and community involvement through music and celebration. The event is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative, and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee

The April event will feature The Chris English Band. Local blues legend Chris English offers a combination of deep traditional blues and solid original material, focusing on Delta blues and playing guitar and harp while stamping out time on an old wooden Coca-Cola crate. He uses vintage guitars from the 1920s and 1930s to replicate the sound and feeling of the blues he has studied and loves. This show will feature his band, which is a natural extension of his solo performance.

As English fills the downtown with his authentic blues, the Saturday Arts Market will be alive with the Ace Hardware bouncy castle on site. Complimentary water will be available thanks to Salisbury Apartments, and the Bike-SBY team will provide a free bicycle valet in front of the Government Office Building. Bring a canned food item to benefit the Maryland Food Bank of the Eastern Shore.

Get takeout from any of the downtown’s restaurants and set up a picnic on North Division St. to enjoy dinner and a show with your family. Don’t forget to bring a chair.

North Division St. between Main and Church streets will be closed to traffic between 1-8 p.m. The area will still be accessible to pedestrians. Plenty of free parking will be available in the parking garage and in Parking Lot 1 in between the library and WMDT.

Gold Title Sponsorships are still available for the 2015 season. The sponsorships are only $1,000 and include signage on the stage, a table beside the stage, inclusion in all advertising, and recognition at the event. There are also silver and bronze sponsorships available.
