Decatur Swimmers Finish Strong In Regionals

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity swimming teams turned in strong performances in the state 3A-2A-1A East region meet last weekend with each team finishing second in total team points.

The Decatur boys finished second in their regional meet with 310 total team points, while Easton was first with 329 and Queen Anne’s was third with 299. In the women’s regional meet, just seven total points separated first from second as Easton finished with 339 to take first and Decatur finished with 332 to take second. Cambridge-South Dorchester was third with 245.

In the men’s 200 free, Tucker Cordial was seventh for Decatur, while Jake Lathroum was eighth. In the men’s 200 individual medley, Andre Gottlieb finished second for Decatur, while Keith Williams was fifth. Chris Poole finished fifth for Decatur in the men’s 50 free, while Dustin Berkey was seventh. In the men’s 100 butterfly, Andrew Gottlieb was second and Matt Krall finished 12th. Poole finished fifth in the 100 free, while Berkey was seventh. In the 500 free, Noah Sackadorf finished fifth and Matt Krall was sixth. In the men’s 100 backstroke, Dalton Warren finished first and Tyler Keiser was fifth.

In the 200-meter medley relay, the Decatur team of Dalton, Williams, Gottfried and Poole finished second. In the 200-meter freestyle relay, the Seahawks team of Poole, Warren, Gottfried and Berkey finished fourth. In the 400 freestyle relay, Decatur finished fifth with Berkey, Cordial, Sackadorf and Williams.

On the women’s side, in the 200 free, Hailey Williams finished third and Molly Wooten finished sixth. In the 200 individual medley, Carly Deickman was third and Maria Zweifel was sixth. Madison Tinus finished first in the 50 free, while Stephany Smith was ninth. Tinus also finished second in the 100 free, while Marley Rakow was fourth.

In the 500 free, Hailey Williams was second and Zainab Mirza was sixth. In the 100 backstroke, Rakow was fifth and Coleen LeKites finished seventh. Deickman was second in the 100 breaststroke, while Zweifel finished eighth.

In the relays, the Decatur girls also finished strong. The team of Tinus, Rakow, Smith and Mirza finished second in the 200 freestyle relay. Williams, Deickman, Smith and Tinus finished second in the 200 medley relay. Rakow, Wooten, Deickman and Williams finished second in the 400 freestyle relay.
