Seahawks Rout Crabbers, Extend Streak To 11

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team enjoyed another impressive week, sweeping three opponents to stretch their win streak to 11 games.

The Seahawks are now 12-1 on the season, their only loss coming way back on December 9 to Mardela. Last week, the Decatur girls avenged the early season loss to Mardela with a 60-54 win over the Warriors, then swept three more games to extend their remarkable winning streak to 11 games.

The Seahawks beat Wicomico, 52-16, last Thursday, followed by a 74-25 rout of Indian River in a rare Saturday game. Against Indian River, Dayona Godwin led the Seahawks with 18 points, while Amya Mumford scored 14 and Marina Jones added 13. Back in action on Monday, the Seahawks dismantled Crisfield, 71-21. Godwin led the offense again with 31 points, while Jones grabbed eight rebounds.

At 12-1, the Seahawks lead the Bayside South standings, but there are a few potential potholes on the horizon. Decatur played Pocomoke yesterday in a game played too late to be included in this edition, and will play four straight road games over the next two weeks including visits to Crisfield, Washington, Snow Hill and Bennett. The Seahawks will then close out the regular season with home games against Kent Island and Parkside.
