BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity basketball team routed Gunston, 48-9, last week for its third straight win after a post-holiday break loss to rival Saints Peter and Paul.
Sophie Brennan led the Mallards with 14 points, while Molly Soule scored eight and grabbed 10 rebounds. The win over the Herons was the third straight for Worcester after a narrow 32-26 loss to Saints Peter and Paul back on January 9.
The Mallards’ record now stands at 11-2 overall and includes a remarkable seven-game mid-season winning streak. Worcester opened the season with a win over Gunston followed by a loss to Sussex Tech. After that, Worcester reeled off a seven-game winning streak that spanned the Christmas break before the loss to the Sabres.
Worcester clearly didn’t dwell on the loss to Saints Peter and Paul, however, and have now won three straight again including wins over Chincoteague, Salisbury School and Gunston. The Mallards will now have to cool their heels for the winter break and don’t return to action until a February 4 meeting with Delmarva Christian on the road. Also looming is a February 9 rematch with Saints Peter and Paul at home.
