BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team this week is competing in the Battle by the Bay Tournament hosted by Indian River High School after sweeping three straight matches just before the holiday break.
The Seahawks lost to Poly in its season opener, then reeled off three straight wins in impressive fashion over Kent County, North Dorchester and St. Michael’s just before the holiday break. Decatur is taking its 3-1 record into the Battle by the Bay at Indian River, which got underway on Monday. The prestigious tournament features 22 teams, including 14 from Delaware, six from Pennsylvania and one each from Maryland and Virginia including Decatur.
Decatur will return to regular season action against Easton on January 7 before hosting the annual War on the Shore in Salisbury on January 16-17. The War on the Shore for years was held in December, first at Decatur and later at the Ocean City Convention Center before the event grew so big it needed to be moved to Salisbury. This year, the tournament will be held on Martin Luther King weekend and will feature 23 teams including nine from Maryland, six from Virginia and eight from Delaware.
