Worcester Girls Ride 6-0 Streak Into Break

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity basketball team stayed on a big roll last week, beating Delmarva Christian, 64-54, in overtime to close out the first half of the season with six straight wins.

The Mallards beat the Royals, 64-54, last Wednesday in the last game before the Christmas holiday. It took overtime, but Worcester pulled away in the extra period for the 10-point win. Sophie Brennan led Worcester with a game-high 23 points, while Molly Soule added 12.

With the overtime win, the Mallards ran their win streak to six games and their overall record to 7-1 for the first half of the season. After routing Gunston, 80-23, in the season opener, the Mallards fell to Sussex Tech, 48-28. Since then, Worcester has been unbeatable with six straight. The Mallards have averaged around 55 points a game during the streak, while giving up an average of 24.

The Mallards are now enjoying the two-week winter break and return to action at home on January 7 against Salisbury Christian. In just the second game after the break, Worcester will get its first real big test with a road game against ESIAC rival Saints Peter and Paul on January 9.
