BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team closed out the first portion of the 2014-2015 campaign on a high note, edging Delmarva Christian, 37-35, last Wednesday.

Against the Royals, Tucker Brown led Worcester with 13 points, while Owen Nally added 10. The win closed out an up-and-down first portion of the season for Worcester, which went into the Christmas break with a 4-2 mark. Worcester opened the season with a 62-16 rout of Gunston, followed by a narrow 59-48 loss to Chincoteague.

After that loss, Worcester won two straight, beating Holly Grove and Greenwood. Last Monday, the Mallards lost to St. Thomas More at home, but rebounded with the home win over Delmarva Christian last Wednesday to enter the break at 4-2. Worcester will compete for the first time in Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury over the holiday break with a first-round game against North Dorchester on Monday at 9 a.m.

Their second round opponent will be determined by the outcomes in the first round. Worcester returns to regular season action on January 7 at home against Salisbury Christian.
