Fenwick To Offer Online Payments

FENWICK ISLAND – Starting in the beginning of the new year, the Town of Fenwick Island will offer online payments.

During last month’s Town Council meeting, Town Manager Merritt Burke recommended to the council to approve the company MuniciPAY to provide an online payment option for town permits, licenses and taxes.

The IT Committee researched several other companies and local banks before deciding on MuniciPAY.

“We decided as a group to recommend to council the company MuniciPAY. They are a national company used by over 600 municipalities,” Burke said. “If approved today by council, it will allow the community, even though we like to see everyone walk through the front doors [Town Hall], but if you wanted to pay for different licenses or property taxes online in the future you can do so online. I don’t see many cons to this. I see a lot of pros.”

Councilman Gene Langan, who serves as the chair of the IT Committee, made a motion for the town to move forward in accepting credit card payments online and to approve the vendor MuniciPAY for an initial one-year term.

“I don’t see any negatives to this. It isn’t costing us anything. It is just providing another avenue,” Councilman Todd Smallwood said.

The council voted unanimously to approve the online payment operation with MuniciPAY. The service is projected to go live by Jan. 1, 2015.
