BERLIN — The following is a gathering of student media announcements received over the last month.

• Ocean City Ravens Roost #44 awarded $15,200 in scholarships to area 2014 high school graduates. 2014 awardees were Erin Florek, Daniel Beck, Layla Fowler and Carly Berterman from Stephen Decatur High School, Hannah Esham and Ryan Nally from Worcester Preparatory School, Karlie Smith, and Samuel Izzo from Indian River High School and Derek McGee from Sussex Technical High School.

• Jason Daniel Pappas of Berlin graduated with a degree in Economics/Business from Randolph-Macon College.

• Ocean City resident Nicole Louisa Carpenter has been named to the dean’s list at James Madison University for the spring 2014 semester.

• Pranab Tuladhar of Ocean City graduated from Youngstown State University in May, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance.

• Andrew G. Murrell graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant.  He was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering by Vice-President Joseph Biden at the graduation ceremonies. Murrell is a 2010 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Murrell from Bishopville and the grandson of Elizabeth Murrell from Salisbury.

• Lindsey Miller, of Berlin, earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Madalyn Schnader, of Berlin earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Management from Elizabethtown College.

• Local students named to the Clemson University Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester included Tyler Henry Sauter of Berlin, whose major is Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, and Sarah M. Kirstein of Ocean City, whose major is Psychology.

• Among the 1,800 Lehigh University graduates last month was Constance Coates of Berlin (21811) who received a B.S. in Psychology, Honors.

• Anna Kelleher of Berlin graduated from Tulane University’s School of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor of Science degree.

• Kelly Sullivan of Berlin has been named to Millersville University of Pennsylvania’s Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester.

• Dillon Harrington of Berlin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Flagler College.

• On Saturday, May 17, 2014, Washington College held its 231st commencement ceremonies. Local graduates included Hilary Badger of Selbyville, Del., who graduated with a BA in political science; Stephannie Giles of Berlin, who graduated with a BA in mathematics; Carrie Hall of Selbyville, Del., who graduated with a BA in human development; Raymond Nichols of Berlin, who graduated with a BA in history; Kylie Nottingham of Berlin, who graduated with a BA in art; and Laura Prengaman of Berlin, who graduated with a BA in mathematics.

• Selbyville, Del. resident, Amanda Michelle Schultz, has been named to the president’s list at James Madison University for the spring 2014 semester.

• Erin V. Bunting, a senior majoring in Exercise and Sport Science from Selbyville, Del., was among more than 1,600 students at Coastal Carolina University who made the Spring 2014 Dean’s List.

• Taylor Tobak of Berlin, a Senior Music major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester.

• Rydge Skyler Dudley of Selbyville, Del., is beginning a challenging and sophisticated course of study at Lebanon Valley College and will be taking classes from some of the most innovative faculty on campus. Dudley is interested in studying the sociology major.

• Local Students recently inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, were Hanna Marynenka of Berlin, initiated at Salisbury University; Alexandra Clagett of Berlin, initiated at Salisbury University; Holly Melson of Berlin, initiated at UMES; and William Neville of Berlin, initiated at UMES.

• Alexis Abrams, an eighth grader at Stephen Decatur Middle School, received first place in the Girls division of the OC-Berlin Optimist Club Oratorical Contest.  This year’s theme is, “How My Passions Impact the World.”
