Seahawks Beat Eagles, End 2-Game Skid

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity softball team halted a two-game skid during which runs were hard to come by with a 7-3 win over county rival Snow Hill on Tuesday.

The Jeckyll and Hyde season continued for the Seahawks this week with a 7-3 win over the Eagles. Beth Laque was dominating at times, going the distance and striking out 12. The Decatur offense, which has been hit or miss for much of the season, was hitting on Tuesday with seven runs which proved to be more than enough support for Laque. Taylor Black and Sam Kefauver each hit two doubles in the win.

The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Seahawks. On April 11, the Seahawks lost to North Caroline, 5-0, and followed that with another 11-1 loss to Mardela last Monday. In the two-game losing streak, the Seahawks scored just one run in two games. In the two games prior, the Decatur girls beat Pocomoke, 14-2, and Wicomico, 10-0.

It’s been a continuing pattern all season for the Seahawks, who have scored 15, 14, 13 and 10 runs in four of their six wins, but have also been shut out three times and scored one run in their four losses. Decatur’s record now stands at 6-4. The Seahawks faced Bennett yesterday in a game played too late to be included in this edition, and will get a rematch with Snow Hill at home tomorrow. They will face Wicomico again on the road on Monday, followed by a home game against Crisfield on Tuesday.
