Mallards Rebound From 1st Loss With Big Win

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season this week, beating Salisbury School, 19-1, on the road on Tuesday in impressive fashion to improve to 3-1.

After cruising past Roosevelt and Salisbury School in their first two games of the year, the Mallards fell to always-tough Tower Hill, 13-2, on the road last Friday for their first loss of the year. Wyatt Richens and Reid Carey scored Worcester only two goals in the loss to Tower Hill.

After the loss, Worcester looked to get back on the winning track in a rematch with Salisbury School scheduled for Monday. However, pouring rain washed out that contest and it was rescheduled for Tuesday at Salisbury School. The temporary setback did not appear to affect the Mallards, who cruised past the Dragons, 19-1.

Luke Payne led the onslaught against Salisbury School, scoring eight goals and adding an assist. Richens also had a big day, scoring five times and adding three assists. Sam Deeley scored three goals and Thomas Buas dished out four assists.

With a 3-1 record, the Mallards now enter the meat of their schedule with several contests against tough regional opponents upcoming including six straight at home. Worcester will face Middleburg this afternoon at home, followed by games against St. Maria Goretti, LaSalle, Calverton, Delmar and Bishop McNamara.
