Future Looks Bright For Decatur Wrestling Program

BERLIN- With rousing success at the Eastern Shore Tournament last week, Stephen Decatur’s junior varsity wrestling team continued its unbeaten season this year, signaling a bright future for the already outstanding program.

While the Decatur varsity wrestling team continued to plow through it regular season in preparation for the conference and state championships, the junior varsity team has been making its own noise this year with an unbeaten record. The last victory for the JV team came last week in the Eastern Shore Tournament. The junior varsity team also won the prestigious Bob Rowe Tournament earlier this year.

During the Eastern Shore Tournament last week, four individual junior varsity wrestlers won the title in their respective weight classes, while five others finished as runners-up. Collecting championships for the Seahawks were Mike Tropkoff (113), Dillon Goggin (120), Gus Esham (170) and Ean Spencer (195). Finishing in second place in their weight classes were Josh Lawson (106), Adam McInerney (113), Josh Emm (145), Matt Gingrich (126) and Brandon McKenzie (152).
