BERLIN- It took a while to get the offense rolling, but Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team finally broke through and put county rival Snow Hill in their rear view mirror at home on Tuesday with a 6-1 win over the Eagles.
Snow Hill got on the board first against Decatur on Tuesday and led 1-0 before Nick White broke through to tie the game at 1-1 at the 25:16 mark in the first half. The Decatur offense continued to apply constant pressure on the Eagle’s defensive end throughout much of the rest of the first half, but could not break through. Snow Hill’s Mitchell Pruitt made big save after big save as Decatur’s relentless attack proved fruitless and the game was tied 1-1 at the half.
The Seahawks got it going in the second half, however, getting goals from up and down the roster and pulled away for the 6-1 win. Zak Hosino scored twice in the second half to lead the Seahawks in scoring, while White, Alton Walker, Evan Heim and Tyler Angelo each pitched in single tallies. Decatur’s Logan Thumma recorded seven saves in the 6-1 win, while Snow Hill’s Pruitt was outstanding with 20 saves despite the loss.
