WEST OCEAN CITY- The 9th Annual Greene Turtle 5K Run and Walk, benefitting the Ocean City Emergency Medical Technicians, was once again a huge success last weekend with around 150 participants competing in the Memorial Day weekend tradition.
For the 9th straight year, the Greene Turtle West, along with partner OC Tri-Running, hosted the annual 5K run and walk for the benefit of the Ocean City EMTs last Sunday under near perfect weather conditions. From modest beginnings eight years ago when the annual race was held in late July, the event has grown by leaps and bounds and now has become a fixture on the local Memorial Day weekend schedule. The race was moved from July to May.
The course began at the entrance to the Greene Turtle and headed south on Route 611 before making a loop through the Mystic Harbor community and returning to the finish line in front of the restaurant. A post-race party and awards ceremony immediately followed the race.
For the record, Alex Anolik of Clifton, N.J. finished first, followed closely by David Stevenson of Abingdon. The Top 10 local finishers included Richard Rotson of Berlin (4th), Stephanie D’Ambrosio of Salisbury (7th), Don Parana of Berlin (11th), James Parana of Berlin (13th), Karen Cathell of Berlin (15th), Mark Laforest of Ocean Pines (17th), Leigh Biggerman of Ocean City (21st), Scott Kurtz of Berlin (23rd), Samantha Seifert of Salisbury (24th) and Brigit Taylor of Ocean City (26th).
