BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity softball team swept two games this week, beating Parkside on the road on Monday and Bennett at home on Tuesday, to remain unbeaten thus far this season.
The Seahawks have been dominating for the most part this season on their way to a 6-0 start. Last week, Decatur routed Washington, 22-0, before adding a 5-1 win over county rival Snow Hill last Thursday. The Seahawks were in action on back-to-back days on Monday and Tuesday this week and picked up two more wins against Bayside South rivals.
On Monday, Decatur beat Parkside, 12-6, behind a strong pitching performance by Jessica Iacona, who struck out eight and helped her own cause at the plate with a double and a triple. Taylor Black also had two hits including a double.
Back in action at home on Tuesday, the Seahawks were deadlocked in a 0-0 tie through the first three innings before breaking through in the fourth. Black was hit by a pitch to start the rally and Amanda Parsons then doubled to put runners on first and third with one out.
Beth Laque singled to drive in Black and then Lauren Laque singled to drive in Parsons. Before the inning was over, the Seahawks would take a 3-0 lead, which was more than enough to stand up for the 6-1 win. Decatur played Wicomico yesterday in a game played too late to be included in this edition and will face a tough Mardela team at home tomorrow.
