BERLIN- The Coastal Lacrosse Club is partnering with the Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team for the 3rd Annual Lax for Leukemia fundraiser with a pair of coordinated events set for next weekend.
Next Saturday, April 6, the SU men’s lacrosse team will host Mary Washington and will host its 3rd Annual Lax for Leukemia fundraiser on the same day. The impetus for the annual fundraiser is Salisbury midfielder Alex Nieves, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010. After eight rounds of chemotherapy and 15 months in and out of the hospital, Nieves returned to the Salisbury University team in February after a two-year absence.
On Sunday, April 7, the Coastal Lacrosse Club will be hosting its first play day of the spring season and will host its coordinated event with Lax for Leukemia in conjunction with the SU event a day earlier. Coastal Lax will be accepting donations for the fundraiser at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex in Berlin along with a bake sale. Nieves and other members of the national championship Salisbury University team will also be on hand to sell T-shirts and sign autographs.
