BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team appears ready to make another run at a possible state championship this year with a talented group of returning players and a flock of young Seahawks ready to contribute.
With a nucleus of key players returning, the Seahawks appear poised to compete for a Bayside championship again this year and a possible deep run in the state playoffs. After a highly successful season last year, the Decatur girls reached the semifinals in the state 3A-East region tournament before falling to Queen Anne’s in the semifinals. This year, anticipation is high at the Berlin school for another great season.
Coach Bob Musitano and his staff last week released the varsity roster for the 2013 season and the list includes many familiar names along with a few newcomers. Making the team this year were Hannah Adkins, Elle Bargar, Allison Beck, Annie Brown, Layla Fowler, Eileen Hayman, Jenna Leitgeb, Alexis Martinek, Chloe Maykrantz, Ali McLoota, Jillian Petito, Hannah Proctor, Sami Quilter, Cassidy Remmell, Skylar Siegfried, Kayla Terlizzi, Ashley Trice, Katie Van Bruggen, Payton Van Kirk and Blair Yesko.
The Seahawks got their first taste of live action last week at the Eastern Shore Pay Day hosted by Bennett featuring some of the top public and private prep teams on the shore. The Decatur girls open the regular season at home next Friday, March 22, against familiar Bayside South rival Parkside.
