Woman’s Body Found In Canal

OCEAN CITY – Tragedy struck the resort area this week when a popular local woman was found deceased in a bayside canal near 94th Street early Tuesday morning.

Around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Ocean City Police responded to the area of 94th Street for a report of a barking dog. OCPD officers arrived on the scene and located the deceased body of an adult female, later identified as Julie Ann Eade, 59, of Ocean City, in a nearby canal.

Eade’s remains have been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation by the Ocean City Police Department.

Eade worked for many years as the manager of O.C. Hair and Nails in the Gold Coast Mall. According to her obituary, Eade was known to many in the area as “Mom” and loved her extended family in the Ocean City Police and Fire departments.

According to an obituary from Burbage Funeral Home, Eade was born in New York, the daughter of the late Kenneth Gilbert and Loreda Kniskern Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne “Sonny” A. Eade, Jr. Eade was an avid New York Giants fan and loved gathering with friends to watch football games. According to her obituary, she enjoyed boating, fishing and lounging by the water and her favorite destinations included the Bahamas and Cayuga Lake in upstate New York.

She is survived by two sons, with whom she was so proud, including OCPD Corporal Dennis Eade and his wife Kira of Willards, and Jason Eade of Ocean City; a brother, Brad Gilbert; and a sister, Linda Mahon and her husband Rocky.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Community Church of Ocean Pines on Racetrack Rd. Internment will be private.
