OCEAN CITY – The 21st annual Ocean City Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is approaching, providing residents in the area an opportunity to enjoy the holiday season by attending a breakfast buffet, while listening to the inspirational stories of Steve Young.
The Ocean City Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast began in 1990. The event is held at the Clarion Resort Hotel on 101st Street. The breakfast is a buffet and a guest speaker indulges those who attend along with several other speakers of note.
“We have in between 400 to 500 people who attend,” Spangler said. “Professional people, business people, people in the community. People come to me and say, what a great way to start a day.”
Spangler said that between the excellent food and the guest speaker, everyone’s day starts on an upbeat and spiritual note.
Young, this year’s guest speaker, is from the Campus Crusade for Christ International.
According to Spangler, Young spent seven years living and working in Jos, Nigeria. With an engineering degree, he worked with the water system. While he was there, he began teaching at the University of Jos and helped to develop programs of evangelism to local churches.
“Since then, Steve [Young] through the Campus Crusade has been to over 45 countries throughout the world, bringing God’s message to the business and professional community,” Spangler wrote in a recent letter to the editor.
In 34 years, Young has developed many stories of his work with Campus Crusade, including his recent work with the rescued minors in Chile.
“All minors when rescued were wearing T-shirts supplied by Campus Crusade,” Spangler wrote. “On the front of the shirt in Spanish are the words thank you lord and on the back of the shirt Psalm 95:4.”
The breakfast will be held on Friday, Dec. 10 from 7-9 a.m. The tickets are $15 in advance if purchased before Dec. 7. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Tables of 8-10 people can be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“It’s the Christmas season and people are having a hard time right now,” Spangler said. “We’ve got to look toward the person who created us for guidance and direction.”
Tickets can be purchased at City Hall, Long and Foster Realty on 120th street, Cropper Oil Company on Route 50 in Berlin, and the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce on Route 50 in Ocean City. Also, a check can be mailed to 204 Graham Ave., Berlin, Md., 21811.
“Come hear how God’s Spirit is moving in the hearts and minds of people throughout the world and the part that Campus Crusade for Christ is playing in,” Spangler wrote in his recent letter to the community.
