Ann
Lockhart Showell

OCEAN
CITY – Ann Lockhart Showell died peacefully at her home on Friday, May 28,
2010.

She was
born in Wadesboro, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Adam Lockhart and
Elizabeth Hardison Lockhart.

She
graduated from Duke University in 1946 and in 1947 married John Dale Showell
III. She and her husband moved to Ocean City in 1948 and were in business
together until his death in 1992. She retired in 1999.

She was
a member of St. Paul’s By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City. She was a
Layreader at that church and also a Layreader at Bethesda By-The-Sea in Palm
Beach, Fla.

She and
her husband spent many winters in Palm Beach where they belonged to the
Everglades Club, Governor’s Club and the Society of the Four Arts. She was a
director of Atlantic National Bank in Ocean City and a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary-Ocean City, the Dunes Club, National Society of the Colonial
Dames of America, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is
survived by her children, John Dale Showell IV, Ann Showell Mariner and her
husband Reggie, Sarah Elizabeth Showell and Adam Lockhart Showell Sr. She was
beloved grandmother to Carly Ann Finkbeiner and her husband, Ryan, Elizabeth
Lockhart Showell, Adam Lockhart Showell, Jr., Sarah Ann Showell and Hannah
Napier Showell. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Lockhart Taylor,
her husband, Patrick, of Wadesboro, N.C. and several nieces and nephews.

A
funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s
By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City, 3rd Street and Baltimore
Avenue. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Berlin. In
lieu of flowers, she requests that donations be made to Atlantic General
Hospital, 9733 Healthway Drive, Berlin, Md. 21811 or St. Paul’s By-The-Sea
Episcopal Church, 302 Baltimore Avenue, Ocean City, Md. 21842.

Arrangements
will be handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Gregory
R. Forte

FENWICK
ISLAND – Our gift of Gregory R. Forte, July 11, 1980-May 2010, vibrant, loving,
always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He is passionate about his family,
friends and soccer.

He
loves and is loved by the ‘A Team’: Fred, Linda, Jay, Jonathan, Cait Forte; his
much loved and loving girlfriend Kara (RahRah); Christi and Mike Arndt; Andrew,
Nicole and Deacon (DeekDeek) McBride; and so many loving friends.

He
graduated from Indian River High School. He has played soccer in Ocean City
since he was 4 and has played throughout Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic region.
During his college years, he played four yrs at Mount St. Mary’s University in
Emmitsburg, Md., and was the assistant coach for the men’s soccer program at
the University of Delaware while attaining his Master’s degree. His love of
soccer and sports is well known to all who know him.

In
addition to playing in the Ocean City Adult Men’s League and the Hispanic
League in Sussex County, Del, he has also played on American and Mexican teams
in South Jersey, Wilmington, N.C. and Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to
teaching and working in restaurants, he has been traveling with his best
friend/brother Jonathan and coaching his much loved sister Cait with her love
of soccer and college plans.

Roger
J. Horth

OCEAN
CITY – Roger Joseph Horth, age 85, departed peacefully on May 27, 2010, while
surrounded by his proud and loving family.

He was
the beloved husband of Antoinette, father of Lisa Horth of Norfolk, Va. and
Michael Horth, married to Lori, of Virginia Beach, Va., and the grandfather of
their children, Blair and Michael. He is survived by three of his 16 siblings,
Juliette St. Clair of Saugus, Mass., Sister Theresa Horth of the Carmelite Monastery
in Concord, N.H., Claire Caramello of Selbyville, Del.; and many nieces and
nephews. He was a military veteran who served honorably during World War II and
was a devoted backyard birder and crossword aficionado. But he was happiest
when he was with his entire family. He will be remembered by many for his keen
sense of humor and his playful interaction. His wishes for a private service
will be respected.

James
H. “Pete” Norfolk

SELBYVILLE
– James H. “Pete” Norfolk, age 84, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Baltimore,
passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 30, 2010
at Brandywine Assisted Living in Selbyville.

He was
born in Baltimore, on Sept. 28, 1925 son of the late John and Eva (Berlha)
Norfolk. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. He
was a retired payroll manager for the Baltimore City Water Department. He was a
member of Zion United Church of Christ in Perry Hall.

He
loved dancing, taking bus trips, and singing in his church choir.

He was
preceded in death by is wife, Mazie, in 2009.

He is
survived by his daughter, Jami Winterling and her husband Leo F. Winterling of
Selbyville, Del., and two grandchildren, Jason Winterling and his wife
Andrianne of Wilmington, Del. and Jordan Winterling and his wife, Vanessa of
Selbyville.

A Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4 at St. John
Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 11211 Beauchamp Rd, Berlin, Md. 21811, where
friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Roxana Cemetery.

In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in James’s memory to,

Beatrice
Marie Whitson

OCEAN
PINES – Beatrice Marie Whitson, age 97, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at
Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in
New York, on Feb. 3, 1913, she was the daughter of the
late Frederick Kamper and Catherine Krupp Kamper. She was preceded in death by
her husband, William Whitson.
She is survived by her son, Paul G. Whitson and his wife Lorayne; five
grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Services were held yesterday at Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Deacon Charles
Weschler officiated. Interment will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery
in New York.

Andrey
Betzler Capone

BERLIN
– Audrey Betzler Capone, now of Berlin and formerly of Annandale, Va., died on
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 of cancer at her home.
Capone was a former cryptologist for the Army Security Agency (later National
Security Agency) and was stationed at the Naval Communication Station in
Washington and later at the Pentagon. She was active for over 30 years in the
National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs both on the
local and state levels. She was president of the Annandale Chapter of the
Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) as well as secretary, public
relations chairman and editor of the state magazine for the state.
In 1970, Capone was honored by the Annandale BPW and awarded "woman of the
year" for dedication to business and the community. She was later
appointed to the first Fairfax County Commission on Women, where she conducted
the first comprehensive study of the female workforce in Fairfax County
government, showing the wide division between male and female positions and salaries.
The study resulted in important changes in job descriptions and pay scales not
only for women but also minorities. She was then appointed to the Fairfax
County Civil Service Commission where implementation of these changes was made.
Capone became the first female Chairman of the Fairfax Civil Service
Commission. In addition to her service to Fairfax County, she published a
newspaper column called "Frankly Speaking", which dealt with local
politics, crimes, and the court system and wrote for several local newspapers,
state and national periodicals. She later researched and published a history of
the William H. Fitzhugh Plantation that included all
of Annandale, and Springfield, Va.
Capone also served as president of the Annandale Chamber of Commerce in the
1970’s.
She leaves to mourn four beloved children, Catherine Capone and Bonita Manion
(Michael) of New York State, Christopher Capone (Jane) of Ruckersville, VA and
Gina Capone of Berlin, along with nine grandchildren
and six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, June 11, at 2
p.m. Friends may call from noon-1 p.m. Family will offer Eulogy at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin following the mass.

of flowers donations may be made to the Lawrence T. and Audrey B. Capone
Memorial Music and Writing Scholarship Fund, c/o Bank of Ocean City, 627
William St., Berlin, Md. 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage
