Pauline
M. Hetler

BERLIN
– Pauline Marie Hetler, age 94, died on May 17, 2010 at Atlantic General
Hospital.

She
would have celebrated her 95th birthday on May 22. A resident of
Berlin since 1983, she was preceded in death by her husband Marion E. Hetler.
They were married for 66 years.

Born in
Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt S. Shryock and Lottie
Vay Kurtz Shryock.

Hetler
graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1936, and taught
school in Circleville, Ohio. For many years, she was an active member of the
United Church of Christ in Berea, Ohio, where she taught Sunday School, sang in
the choir, and served as deaconess, circle president and president of the
Women’s Association. She held other leadership positions in the community,
including council president of the Cleveland Area Girl Scouts.  

She is
survived by a son, Dennis W. Hetler and his wife Barbara of Lake Forest, Ill.,
and two daughters, Barbara Robert and her husband Joseph of Ocean Pines, and
June Romine and her husband George of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. She was a
beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren, including Allison Groff Olmsted,
formerly of Berlin, and 14 great-grandchildren.

A
memorial service will take place on Tuesday, June 1, at 11 am at Snyder Funeral
Home in Mansfield, Ohio, followed by internment in Mansfield Cemetery.

 In
lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American
Cancer Society. She was a 25-year cancer survivor.

Mary
Godfrey Dickerson

SALISBURY
– Mary Godfrey Dickerson, age 89, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at
her home in Salisbury with family and her longtime caregiver by her side.

Born in
Snow Hill, she was the daughter of the late William Lawrence Godfrey and
Catherine Capper Beauchamp Godfrey. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Charles Davis Dickerson, in 2009.
Dickerson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She
had worked as a library assistant at Snow Hill Elementary School and was a
member of Bates United Methodist Church in Snow Hill and former Sunday School
teacher.
She is survived by her children, Charles Lawrence "Larry" Dickerson
and his wife Merly of Dover, Del., June Wulff and her husband Preben of
Linwood, N.J. and Marti Harrison and her husband Jack of Salisbury. There are
seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Godfrey
of Berlin, Norman Godfrey of Washington, DC, Robert Godfrey of Snow Hill and
Donald Godfrey of Delmar, Del.; sisters, Ellen Renn and Esther Chase, both of
Salisbury and Jean McFord of New Church, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings Sidney Godfrey, William Godfrey, Randolph
Godfrey and Margaret Tarr.
Services were held at Bates United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. Rev. Mark
Avens officiated. Interment was be in Bates Cemetery in Snow Hill. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to Bates United Methodist Church, 116 N.
Washington St., Snow Hill, Md. 21863 or Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733,
Salisbury, Md. 21801. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral
Home in Snow Hill.

James
B. Eline

BERLIN
– James B. Eline, 74, of Reisterstown, Md. died May 6, 2010 from pulmonary
fibrosis.

He was
the fourth generation owner of Eline Funeral Home in Reisterstown in
business since 1888.
He was a life member of Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company and a member of
Glyndon Volunteer Fire Company. He was past president of Reisterstown Lions
Club, a Member of Reisterstown Masonic Lodge, Royal Order of Jesters, Bucs Cub,
American Legion #116, Moose Lodge, Jaycees, Maryland State Funeral Directors
and Reisterstown United Methodist Church.
He maintained the Reisterstown Town Clock "Big Ed" which required
weekly winding.
He was an enthusiastic and devoted funeral service professional, believing in
the need to comfort and help people remember their loved ones.
He and his wife Janet, born and raised in Denton, purchased a lot and
built a home in Ocean Pines 25 years ago. They have enjoyed many vacations
here in Worcester County. Alsom he took pride in owning a small portion of land
in Kentucky through his "Squireship" with Jack Daniels.
This very unpretentious man very much loved his family, Jay Eline of
California, Jeffrey and wife Gayle of Reisterstown and precious grandchildren
Selby and Aaron.
He will be long remembered in the ocean area for his unique sense of humor, his
love for great food and fondness for his friends and acquaintances. He was
extremely fond of teasing many servers in a wide variety of local restaurants.
He will be missed greatly but not gone from the hearts of the many that he
touched.

Dale
Leo Powell

BERLIN
– Dale Leo Powell, 83, died at his home on May 22, 2010.

He was
born in Berlin to the late Orrie and Mildred (Minor) Powell.

He
served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a member of the
American Legion Post #123 and also a member of the Salisbury VFW #194. He was a
partner with Mumford and Powell Sand and Gravel and then owner of Dale L.
Powell Sand and Gravel. He also built Sunset Lake Mobile Home Park.

He is
survived by his wife, Mary Jane Powell; brother, Richard Powell of North
Carolina; sister, Daisy Potzman of North Carolina; a special niece, Ruth A.
Sutherland of North Carolina; and several other nieces and nephews. He is
preceded in death by brothers Harold and Ollie Powell.

A
funeral service was held this week at the Burbage Funeral Home. Interment
followed at Taylorville Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Costal
Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Betty
S. Conaway

MILLSBORO,
Del. – Betty S. Conaway, age 77, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on May 22,
2010 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del.

She was
a life long member of the Dickerson Chapel AME Church in Millsboro, Del. She
was a member of the Steward Board and Lay Organization. She was a member of the
Rehab Court # 3, Heroines of Jericho, Clarksville, Del., holding several seats
including Past, Most Ancient Matron. She was a member for over 25 years of the
Milton Assembly # 81, Order of the Golden Circle P.H.A. She was Past Loyal Lady
Ruler.

She
worked at the Stockley Center for 29 years before having to retire due to
medical reasons. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends.

She is
preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hilda Short Jones, and a brother,
Ronson Short. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Andrew Martin
Conaway; one daughter, Sheredia Langhorne of Riverdale, Ga.; one god child,
Byron Allen of Harrington, Del.; two brothers, Donald Short and his companion
Colette of Bethesda, Md., and Bruce Short of Philadelphia, Pa.; two
grandchildren, Katryna and Lauren Langhorne; and many nieces, nephews, cousins,
along with extended family and friends. 

A
funeral service was held at Dickerson Chapel AME Church in Millsboro. Rev.
Richard Worthy officiated. Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial
Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Funeral Home.

Alma J.
Heard

MILLSBORO,
Del. – Alma J. Hearn, age 90, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on May 19, 2010.

She was
a homemaker and a member of Hickory Hill United Methodist Church. Her parents,
John and Ida Pusey Parker, and her husband, Norris Hearn, predeceased her.

Surviving
her are two nieces, Minnie Parker of Milton, Del. and Linda Dykes of Laurel,
Del., and two nephews, Merrill J. Parker and Jack Parker both of Millsboro,
Del.

A
funeral service was held at Watson Funeral Home. Rev. Betty Jo Magee officiated.
Interment was in Carey’s Cemetery,

 Millsboro, Del.
