Wednesday, Oct. 14-Route 90 Bridge To Close Tomorrow

Staff Reports

OCEAN CITY – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the Route 90 Bridge into Ocean City on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. to replace an 85-foot section over the Assawoman Bay. The bridge will open to traffic by mid-December, weather permitting.

The $1.1 million emergency maintenance contract has been awarded to McLean Contracting, Co. of Glen Burnie and High Steel Structures, Inc. of Lancaster, Pa.

Over the next two months, crews will remove one 85-foot section of the bridge over the navigational channel; fabricate and set new steel replacement beams; pour a new concrete bridge deck on the newly placed beams; restripe the new pavement; and install new raised pavement markers.

During construction, SHA will detour all Route 90 traffic to the Route 50 Bridge. SHA will allow local traffic to use Route 90 to access Routes 113 and 589 to Ocean Pines or St. Martins Neck Road toward Bishopville; however no vehicles along eastbound 90 will be permitted beyond St. Martins Neck Road.
