First Shore Earns Top Rating

BERLIN – First Shore Federal Savings & Loan has received a rating of “Outstanding” for Community Reinvestment from its regulatory agency, the federal Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS).

Under the Community Reinvestment Act, bank regulators are required to assess the record of federally insured banks and savings associations in meeting the credit needs of the community they serve.  This record is a public document and the 44-page OTS report is available for review at any of First Shore’s eight branches across the Lower Eastern Shore.

The OTS analyzed the association’s record of lending, investment and community development activities during a three-year period. That review recognized “First Shore’s contribution of leadership, financial support and banking expertise to local non-profit affordable housing organizations” and cited the association’s “high level of responsiveness to serving community needs.”

First Shore has held a CRA rating of “outstanding” since 1995. Less than one in five banks receive such a rating during any examination period.

“We are pleased to receive this rating,” said Marty Neat, president and CEO of the association. “We’re committed to serving the banking needs of our neighbors throughout the communities we serve.  It’s gratifying to have that mission recognized by our regulator.”

Hileman Honors Agents,
Reports Solid Sales Year

BERLIN – Hileman Real Estate has named Sonia Zaffiris as top listing agent and Bethany Drew as top sales agent for the month of March.

In other company news, Hileman Real Estate, Inc. reported that as most of the country reported a dismal year in 2008, its sales volume actually increased.

“According to our local multiple listing service results, in 2008 our company was ranked third in Ocean Pines for sales against the competition. In fact, three of our agents were even in the top 3 percent of all sales for the Coastal Region,” broker/owner Debora Hileman said. “So far in 2009, Hileman is ranked 4th in single-family home sales for the region and ninth for all property types. That is certainly a big accomplishment for a one-office independent broker with only eight full-time sales associates.”

The top selling agent in 2008 was Drew with over $10 million in sales volume, with Sonia Zaffiris a close second with over $8 million in sales.
