WEST OCEAN CITY – Responding to the needs of the community, Delegate James Mathias (38B) is sponsoring a benefit for the Eastern Shore of Maryland Food Bank on Sunday, from 3-7 p.m., at the Greene Turtle West featuring the Rockin’ Jake Band, a New Orleans favorite.
“This is a great opportunity to help those who need it most, in these trying times. Jake is using this occasion to show his gratitude to the people who came to his rescue when he lost his home during Hurricane Katrina,” Mathias said.
Now in its 28th year, Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore provides food throughout nine counties in the Delmarva Peninsula region. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, the Food Bank distributed 2.9 million pounds of food on the Eastern Shore. Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore serves 224 network partners, providing food for more than 31,000 individuals each month.
Bring your canned goods or a monetary donation to help the hungry and be entertained by the Rockin’ Jake Band, which has backed up blues and R&B stars like Billy Boy Arnold and has opened for Dr. John Junior Walker & The All-Stars, Branford Marsallis & Buckshot LeFonque, the Dirty Dozen, the Neville Brothers and B.B. King.
Rockin’ Jake is considered one of the premier harmonica players in the United States. His original sound is a mixture of funk, blues and zydeco.
