Trade Shows Goes Green
OCEAN CITY – With all the recent buzz around the “greening of the industry,” the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association deemed it time to bring the topic to a local level. Coming March 8-9, the Association’s 35th Annual Spring Trade Show has been coined “Conserve While You Serve.”
This annual tradition will feature a variety of products and services to showcase the latest environmentally friendly ideas for the hospitality industry. From solar energy to biodegradable flatware, the lodging and dining industries will be able to do one-stop shopping during the Expo.
With close to 400 exhibits under one roof, shopping is made simple.
“At Shenanigans Irish Pub, we cater to a variety of locals and visitors, with a variety of tastes. In doing so, we need to have access to a wide array of products, and we can always count on finding those at the Spring Trade Expo,” said Association Past President and Shenanigans Irish Pub owner Greg Shockley.
There will be more vendors than ever this year, with a new exhibit hall added for the 2009 show. The Worcester County Liquor Control Board will anchor the main ballroom and will feature the latest in spirits, including the newest vodka tasting like sweet tea. Product samples and demonstrations are plentiful during the two-day expo.
“There’s no better place to check out all the latest and most innovative products on the market,” said Annemarie Dickerson, owner of the Francis Scott Key Family Resort.

Broker Earns Recognition
BERLIN – Carl Ortman, Ph.D., real estate broker at Re/Max Premier Properties and Grand Bay Properties, has been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of real estate.
With 35 years of professional experience, five of which have been in his current position, Ortman is responsible for managing the purchase and sale of commercial and residential properties, teaching real estate agents the valuable continuing education credits that are necessary to maintain their licensure status. In addition, Ortman, who received his Ph.D. in Education from Century University in 1990, was the head of three independent schools and has 33 years of experience in education.
Services See Increase
SALISBURY – The Wellness Community-Delmarva, The Guerrieri Center for Hope and Support, estimates that 2,940 participants utilized its services 8,437 times in 2008, over double the participants of 2007.
This growth from 2007 and years past demonstrates the critical demand for cancer support services on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Stress management classes saw the largest growth in 2008, with 635 more visits than in 2007. Since opening its doors in May 2001, there have been significant increases in the number of individuals utilizing the services of TWC-D.
According to Penny LeCates, LCSW-C, OSW-C, program director of TWC-D, the programs at TWC provide cancer survivors with the tools needed to become empowered healthcare consumers.
The mission of TWC-D is to help local people affected by cancer improve their well-being. Services are provided free of charge to anyone at any point in their cancer journey and their loved ones.
