OCEAN CITY- Northside Park was standing room only last weekend as Ocean City Recreation and Parks hosted the second weekend of the St. Patrick’s Soccer tournament series.
Over 40 teams from all over the East Coast traveled to Ocean City to participate. The stands were filled with 3000 spectators throughout the entire weekend. Several local teams advanced to the finals.
In the boy’s under-18 division, Pocomoke won in overtime in the quarterfinals by beating Charm City, 6-5. They faced another tough opponent in the semifinals and again won in overtime, defeating River Soccer Club 2-1. Pocomoke won the tournament by defeating Baltimore-based, SSC Eagles 6-1.
In the Women’s Open division, the local team from Whaleyville, Chrome World, defeated the Towson State Club Team, the Hot Spurs 3-1 in the finals. Scoring for Chrome World was Kelly Higgins, Kelsey Eckmann and Sarah Koenig and for the Hot Spurs was Colleen Marinol.
Tournament play continues this weekend with the under-16 and under-12 divisions. Games at Northside Park begin Friday evening and end on Sunday.
