BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s Chase Humphrey this week signed a national letter of intent to attend school and play soccer next year at the NCAA Division I University of Denver.
Humphrey, captain of this year’s Mallard team and a four-year starter, led Worcester to a near-perfect 12-1 record last fall including 11 straight wins to close out the season. He led the team with 19 goals and nine assists and was named team MVP and ESIAC player of the year, but will likely be remembered for his unselfish play on the field that made all of the players around him better.
“Goals and assists aside, Chase has provided a terrific contribution to WPS soccer and I consider him one of the best players on the Eastern Shore,” said Coach Tom Westcott.
Humphrey was highly recruited by several schools including Brown University, but ultimately chose the University of Denver, not the least of which was the opportunity to step right and play as a freshman. He also fell in love with the school and the program during a visit to the campus.
“I just fell in love with the school, the coaches and the city,” he said on Wednesday. “I’m confident I made the right decision by choosing Denver and I look forward to continuing my athletic and academic career there.”
